Meet our panelists!

Tara Gardner - MODERATOR

Tara Gardner is an award-winning editor, stylist and content consultant from London, UK, recently landing in Chicago. With a decade working in luxury fashion and beauty, Tara has held digital editorships at InStyle UK, Jimmy Choo and Harrods, worked on brand campaigns with the likes of TOM FORD and CHANEL, and has been published in many print and digital titles. Currently the Digital Director for Chicago Woman magazine, Tara also writes for CS and NS magazines, as well as offering consulting services in all things creative content and social media.

George Vlagos

Oak Street Bookmakers, Independence Chicago
The son of a cobbler, Oak Street Bootmakers founder and designer George Vlagos apprenticed at his father’s shop where he learned the craft of shoemaking from an early age. Today, George seeks to preserve the heritage of fine shoemaking through thoughtfully designed and attentively crafted shoes. George is also the founder and owner of Independence Chicago. Independence has been recognized by GQ, Gear Patrol, Chicago Magazine and others as one of the country's premier menswear destinations. 

Drew Allison

Drew Allison has been on the retail side of menswear since 2008, and joined the Independence team in January of 2017. Drew focuses on well made, relatable staples that are emphasized by stand out seasonal pieces.

Jessica Monzalvo 

Originally from Pachuca Hidalgo, Mexico, Jessica began her career as a Makeup Artist in New York City. She trained at the esteemed Makeup Forever Academy where she gained expertise in Beauty/Fashion, Special FX, TV, and Body Painting. Fueled by the city’s boundless energy, Jessica returned to her Chicago home and founded MAKEUP FIX by JEM, an educational program designed to help new and established artists with their artistry and career. Determined to help other artists succeed not only where she lives, but also where she was born, MAKEUP FIX by JEM operates in Chicago and Mexico.

Rachel Leykind 

Rachel Leykind founder of Rachel Lynn Chicago is both a jeweler and entrepreneur. With a background in fashion, jewelry and business Rachel applies all three to both her jewelry business and newly launched purposeful packs business Hi Love Travel. Rachel's love for design and business is what keeps her inspiration growing. When she is not growing both of her businesses she loves spending quality time with her husband Gene, two year old Blake and dog Sugar.

Kelly Hurliman

Kelly Hurliman has been named one of The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 most powerful stylists spending a decade as a personal stylist to Oprah Winfrey. After years in the fashion industry she decided to pursue her growing passion for interior design - first with an apprenticeship at Nate Berkus & Associates and then starting her own firm, Kelly Hurliman Design. She began working on an array of creative projects and was soon noted 'Who to Watch' by Chicago Splash Magazine. Just like in fashion Kelly's aesthetic combines classic and modern design with an approachable high/low mix. Her down to earth sensibility and desire to make each space reflect the client's own personal style give her a fresh voice in the design community.
